Soap Opera Politics

It has been an exciting week in politics. First there was all the in-fighting within the Liberal Party which ended with the dumping of Malcolm Turnbull.

Shortly afterwards, there was more fighting in the State Labor Party.Yesterday, Nathan Rees was given the boot and replaced by Kristina Keneally.

It’s easy to come to the conclusions that all our politician are only good at fighting with each other rather than dealing with the issues of our society.

This is true but people need to remember that the problems in the Liberal Party stem from ideological differences whereas the State Labor Party is just full of egotistic individuals battling out to show they have more support than Rees.

Keneally can enjoy her promotion and the title of first NSW female leader but she will always be remembered as coming into power as a puppet thanks to Rees. He announced:

“Should I not be Premier by the end of this day, let there be no doubt in mind, that any challenger will be a puppet of Eddie Obeid and Joe Tripodi.”

Of course, Keneally denies she’s nobody’s puppet. “I’m nobody’s protégé, I am nobody’s girl,” she said.

I don’t think the public really believes her and the notion of that she is a puppet will stick. Perhaps it’s time to fix the problems in NSW. In the mean time enjoySMH’s talented Cathy Wilcox and Alan Moir’s witty illustrations of the new Premier.
